ABOUT: Sinéad X Sanders

Singer-Songwriter / Jukebox Heroine - Vancouver BC

"Sanders is like a ghost from a simpler time...which, given the wretched state of the world today, is seriously high praise." - The Georgia Straight

Raised on jukebox-era rock & roll, blues, R&B, country, jazz and punk, Sinéad X Sanders cut her teeth playing local pubs and various stages in her hometown of Vancouver, garnering not only a hard-core following of fans, but also the respect of the city's finest musicians and pundits. Compared with everyone from Wanda Jackson to Billie Holiday, Lucinda Williams to Elvis, these legends were influences to be sure - but Sanders' vibe and voice remain uniquely her own. With a hard-earned gift for keeping folks entertained, she picked up a guitar and took to singing her heart out at just 9 years old. After car accident at age 13 left her with a fractured skull, she went on to face not-insignificant challenges with the various tasks required to make an indie music career happen - hence the late debut. Fortunately, the ability to create and perform was one area she has always found it easy to connect her passion with her actions, drawing support from community and making her mark in her own determined way.

From a whisper to a wail, Gibson in hand, Sanders can rock a solo show effortlessly. It is in the company of a solid band where she truly shines, and for such a wee young thing she leads with great confidence and comradery. Bringing together some of the city's top talent for her first full album release THEM SHADOWS, the energy captured on record here is hot enough to burn a body if they get too close. In the tradition of fellow retro firecrackers Amy Winehouse and Tami Neilson, with themes ranging from the exploitation of humans and animals, to complicated relationship arrangements, Sanders' music may sound old school, but is lyrically very much up to date.

The city gathered round for a sold out release show at the Wise Hall in Vancouver at the end of year, featuring special guests Jimmy Roy, Stephen Nikleva and Mike Van Eyes joining her venerable band for the night. Sinéad capped off the night by joining The Rocket Revellers for an unforgettable closing set duet, in an evening for the East Van history books.

With a little luck, 2026 will see this little songbird sucking up the much deserved spotlight, and busy crafting her followup album - keep an eye on this one!
